The following feature is an interview with Melinda, the owner of a wonderful, local cupcake bakery right here in Ontario called My Delight Cupcakery.  I first tried their cupcakes at a birthday party when small, beautifully boxed cupcakes were passed out to each guest as a party favor.  Once we got home, my daughter and I indulged ourselves in a delicious vanilla cupcake that wasn't too sweet, perfectly dense, but also very moist!  My Delight's cupcakes are not the usual type...they are little, gourmet creations and each flavor is unique and one-of-a-kind!  Check them out online at their website:  www.mydelightcupcakery.com, on Facebook, and even on Twitter!  They have quite an online following as they announce flavors of the day and host some fun contests with their Facebook and Twitter followers. 

How did you get started?  Naomi started baking at a very young age and loved it.  After high school, she went to culinary school and worked as a pastry chef for several  years.  Eventually, it became difficult for her to continue taking orders from home, so we talked about opening a shop.  Cupcakes seemed like the right choice because they are so versatile and everyone loves a cupcake!  Opening and running a cupcake shop would have been too difficult for Naomi to do on her own and that’s where I (mom) came into the picture.
 
Why are cupcakes all the rage?  I think having cupcakes featured on television shows really helped to jump-start the craze, but cupcakes also take us back to our childhood.  For the now generation, our shop tailors flavors for the adult pallet as well as having plenty of kid-friendly cupcakes available. There is no limit to the flavor combinations.  We also offer minis, which are extremely popular.  Cupcakes are so versatile, portable and just plain fun!  
 
What are your most popular flavors?  Our top four selling flavors are:  Red Velvet, Breakfast Cake, Carrot & usually the Flavor of the Week.  Then we have those people who just come in for the Key Lime or the Cookies n Cream, etc.  We try to offer enough of a variety so that anyone can come in and find something they absolutely love!
 
Do you cater kid's birthday parties?  We get many requests for custom cupcakes for kids’ birthday parties, etc.  We can create a cupcake to fit any theme.
 
Do you host any special events?  We like to keep things interesting and fresh so we offer events for our customers – especially our Facebook and Twitter fans/followers.  It is a challenge for us to meet the demands of hosting special events, but it is well worth the effort and it is a ton of fun!
