Due to COVID-19, Artemis Fowl, a Disney film that was originally scheduled to be released in theaters, premiered on June 12, 2020, via Disney+. This was the perfect opportunity for our family to view a new movie in the comfort of our home. I popped the popcorn, my husband pulled out the movie projector and the kids made sure we had plenty of snacks as we settled in for movie night.
Artemis Fowl is a science-fiction fantasy adventure film based on the 2001 novel of the same name by Irish author Eoin Colfer. Artemis Fowl is a series of eight books and this is the movie version of the first book. After viewing the movie on its premiere night, I decided to interview my 13-year-old twin boys, Cameron and Jonathan, who are both autistic, about the movie.
1. Did you like the movie?
C: I think it is a Good Movie.
J: (Holding two thumbs up)
2. Why is it a good movie?
C: Because the story is interesting.
J: Because I enjoyed watching it.
3. What did you like about the movie
C: That it's action-packed
J: I like the action of the movie and there’s this one part where the goblin breaks into the house and the main characters have to fight him and the goblin destroys everything in the house and then gets defeated eventually.
4. What is your favorite part of the movie
C: My favorite part of the movie is where there was the big battle that the goblin and the big dwarf (Mulch Dugguns) hid the Aculos in his mouth and kept it away from the bad fairies. Then they were able to save the Aculos from falling in the hands of bad fairies.
J: I liked the part where Artemis learned the fairies and goblins were real because that’s when I knew the action was about to begin.
5. Would you recommend the movie to somebody else? Why?
C: If you like movie night and you have Disney+, you can watch Artemis Fowl because it is a good move. It has lots of great acting and adventure and the CGI is awesome
J: I would recommend this movie because the fight scenes were cool and the weapons, gadgets, and stuff were also cool.
As you can see, these boys love action and adventure movies with lots of special effects and this movie had more than enough to keep them entertained.
