DIY Fireworks Craft

By Beth Neely, Rancho Cucamonga Macaroni Kid July 3, 2020

We created these cute DIY Fireworks with our Girl Scout Brownie Troop and it was a hit! You can make this fun and simple craft in no time with your kids!

Here are the materials you'll need:

  • 2x2 Wood  - purchased at the local home improvement store and cut to 6", 5" & 4" lengths
  • Sandpaper
  • Floral wire - purchased at the local craft store
  • Red, White & Blue Paint - purchased at the local craft store
  • Foam brushes for paint
  • Festive garland - purchased at the dollar store
  • Wire cutters
  • Drill with a small bit for drilling hole in the top

Instructions:

1. Once your wood is cut to size, drill a small hole on one end for the " sparkler top" wire to fit.

2. Sand down any sharp edges on the wood and around the edges.

3. Paint the "fireworks" any color you'd like. Let dry.

4. Layer other colors on top at this time. Stripe, polka dots using a q-tip, or painted on stars. I printed out stars on my vinyl cutter for the girls to use.

5. Using wire cutters, cut about 2 inches of wire and wrap around your finger or a pencil to create a swirl.

6. Cut a piece of decorative garland and wrap around the top of the wire, using clear tape or glue to secure. My garland was made with wire so no tape or glue was needed.

7. Once your wood is dry, place your sparkler in your hole on the top of the wood.

Enjoy your new Fourth of July decoration!
