Many parents have expressed concern over their child’s mental health.
Here are 8 tips for taking care of your child’s mental health during this pandemic:
1. Stay connected to people (family/friends)
2. Remember the basics- get enough sleep, drink water, follow a healthy diet, exercise
3. Create a coping toolkit of things your child enjoys doing, make them feel safe and grounded
4. Stay informed but minimize exposure to media
5. Normalize the struggles we are currently facing
6. Give your kids grace. Keep expectations reasonable- don’t expect your kids to function as they “normally” would.
7. Remember your kids are watching/listening to YOU- if you are anxious, stressed, overly emotional they will be too! Take care of yourself!
8. Reach out for mental health services; many services are provided via telehealth. Be proactive!
