Spring kicks off Saturday, March 30 and for most of us, it can’t get here a moment too soon. After a year of being cooped up, we’re looking forward to reveling in all of the amazing spring blooms that will fill Descanso Gardens in the days and weeks to come.
To usher in the season, Descanso has a few special nature-inspired celebrations planned that are designed to delight, educate and inspire. Following are some of the spring events coming up:
Colorful flowers are a sure sign of spring, but not the only one. The birds of Descanso mark spring by making their homes in the garden. As you explore Descanso, look for special areas from the Promenade to the Oak Woodland marked with the Signs of Spring logo. There you will find displays both educational and artistic, including works by artist David Lovejoy. They’ll invite you to explore birds, nests, blooms, and all the signs of spring.
This April will see the return of the ever-popular Tomatomania! in a new, socially-distanced format in Descanso’s Rose Garden. The Garden will be closed off to allow room to spread out more than 200 tomato varieties and 50 pepper varieties for tomatomaniacs to choose from
To celebrate Earth Day and the beauty of California native blooms, California Native Garden Horticulturist, Layla Valenzuela will create a display featuring both real wildflowers and hand-crafted paper flowers. This special installation will be on view in El Portal.
To visit Descanso Gardens, non-members must reserve tickets in advance at descansogardens.org.
Tickets for April will be available on March 29.
