Boney Island: Whimsical Halloween Fun for All at NHM

Enjoy an interactive, family-friendly Halloween experience at the NHM gardens!

October 13, 2024

Last week, my family and I had the pleasure of attending the Boney Island experience at the Natural History Museum, and it was an absolute delight! Boney Island offers a whimsical, interactive, and illuminated adventure perfect for all ages. Set in the beautifully transformed Nature Gardens, it’s full of fascinating creatures, glowing exhibits, and playful surprises, all while exploring the prehistoric past. This event is fun and cute, not scary, so it’s perfect for families looking to enjoy Halloween without the fright!

Created over 20 years ago by The Simpsons producer Rick Polizzi, Boney Island was originally a fun, family-friendly Halloween display in Polizzi's front yard. Inspired by Brooklyn’s iconic Coney Island, it soon grew into a major attraction in Griffith Park, with a cult-like following of Halloween enthusiasts. After closing in 2020 due to the pandemic, Boney Island is back in its second year at NHM. This partnership with the museum brings even more magic to the experience while keeping the event light-hearted and enjoyable for all.

You’ll find delicious food options from local vendors, family-friendly photo ops, and a pop-up NHM gift store with Boney Island-branded merchandise. Adults 21+ can even enjoy nightly bar service. Just remember that schedules and vendors vary by night. Parking is limited, so plan ahead, or better yet, consider public transportation!

If you're looking for a fun evening with the kids or a unique Halloween experience, Boney Island is a must-see this season.
