There’s something wonderfully nostalgic about Claremont’s wading pools. If you've ever spent a summer afternoon there, whether it was last year or a decade ago, you know exactly what I mean. The sun’s out, the water's cool, and the sound of kids laughing and splashing fills the park. And now, it’s that time again: the wading pools reopen Monday, June 15, and run through Saturday, August 8, giving families six days a week of low-key, budget-friendly summer fun.
Here’s the rundown: the pools are open Monday to Saturday, 11 AM to 1 PM at Memorial Park, El Barrio Park, and Wheeler Park. There’s no admission fee, no reservations, and no chaos, just calm, shallow water where kids can cool off and parents can catch a breather.
🛑A few closures to note:
- All Pools will be closed June 19 (Juneteenth)
- Memorial Park will be closed on July 2 and July 3
- El Barrio and Wheeler Parks will be closed on July 4
🌙 Twilight Swims = Summer Magic
This year’s extra splash of fun? Six nights of Twilight Swims. These early evening events run from
5:00 to 7:00 PM and each one has a theme:
- June 22 @ Memorial Park – World Cup
- July 1 @ El Barrio Park – Western
- July 14 @ Wheeler Park – Under The Sea
- July 23@ Memorial Park - K Pop
- July 28 @ Wheeler Park - Space
- August 5 @ El Barrio Park - Glow Night
We love this idea for a cooler option, and it’s a great chance for families to enjoy the pools outside of the usual midday heat.
💡 Some Tips for a Smoother Visit
If you’re heading out this season, a few helpful notes from experience:
- Swim diapers are a must for little ones who aren’t potty trained.
- Swim attire is required - no street clothes allowed in the water, per city rules.
- No water toys or floaties allowed - so best to leave the gear at home.
- Water shoes are a smart idea. Kids move fast, jump hard, and wet pavement can get slippery in a flash.
- No smoking, no alcohol, and no amplified music. The city keeps it family-focused and peaceful.
- The ground gets hot, so sandals or flip-flops are smart.
- Shady spots can go fast, so arrive early if you’re planning to stick around.
- No running near the pools - slippery surfaces and excited feet don’t mix well.
Also good to know: wading pools are available for rental reservation this year. Max capacity is 25 people.
