If your family loves spending time outdoors, here's a fun evening to add to your August calendar.
The San Dimas Canyon Nature Center is hosting Family Fireside Nighton Saturday, August 22, from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m., and it sounds like a great way to wrap up summer before the busy school year really gets underway.
Families can enjoy educational exhibits, games, a Camping 101 workshop, an animal ambassador presentation, and of course, s'mores around the campfire. It's a relaxed afternoon where kids can learn a little about nature while having plenty of fun along the way.
The Camping 101 workshop takes place at the outdoor amphitheater from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m. and is a great introduction for families who are curious about camping but aren't quite sure where to start.
Admission to the workshop and educational exhibits is free, and no registration is required. Games will require the purchase of tickets from the Nature Center gift shop, which will also be open during the event. Proceeds help support the center's animal ambassadors.
If you've never visited the San Dimas Canyon Nature Center, this is a great excuse to check it out. It's close enough for an easy afternoon outing and offers a chance to unplug, explore nature, and spend quality time together before fall activities begin.
